About me

   ABOUT ME:

Me having some time away from the horses

Like most other kids, I wanted to ride, and in those days, we were allowed to help out at riding schools in exchange for riding. So from the age of 6, I was hooked on horses. About 7 years passed by and sadly I became allergic to horses and was forced to stop riding.

One day in my early thirties, I decided to see if I could actually be near horses without any allergic reaction. Hooray - success. Now I was hooked again, and within the first year of riding again, I had passed (with high results),  Levels 1, 2 & 3 of the BHS Owners Certificates and owned my first horse - Holly. I haven't looked back since. Now I have two lovely semi-retired mares that I keep on on my yard and they live out all year round.

Although I don't have any other professional equine qualifications behind me, I do have experience of dealing with different size, age and breeds of horses. My preferred equine working environment is with small non-professional yards or horses who live at home.

In October 2005, I started my freelance groom business part-time and gave up full-time employment in January 2006. Since then, my days have been spent caring for my horses, those on livery with me and clients horses.

As a BHS Gold Member, I am covered for Personal Liability and Personal Accident in respect of my own horses or ones in my care. For more information, visit BHS Membership. I am also a member of the British Grooms Association

Please let me introduce you to my little family. 2 lovely horses and 2 kitten/cats -

ABOUT POLLY:

Polly (my Princess and worth her weight in gold) is nearly 27 years old (but she likes to think she is 10 years old plus 17 years experience!!) and I have had her since August 2005. Her past life includes jumping, cross country and endurance. I hack her out 2-3 times per week and despite the fact she is getting on, her biggest pleasure is galloping along tracks and only stopping when she wants to. Polly is the best horse ever - she even puts herself into her stable at breakfast and dinnertime.

ABOUT WINNIE THE POOH:

Winnie (sometimes called Eeyore and always a Piglet) is 22 years old and I have had her on permanent loan since May 2004 - so consider her mine. Winnie hasn't done a great deal in her past but she is very affectionate, and willingly gives you kisses in exchange for polos or carrots. Winnie is hacked out 2-3 times a week and hates being left alone. She adores being around other horses and likes to round up her little herd. When out hacking, she is more interested the horses around her than where she is going. Winnie loves to eat - and if she is in a good mood, she will even let her friends share her hay.

ABOUT TABITHA AND TESSA:

Tabitha

Tabitha and Tessa make up the rest of of my little family - living at the yard. Tabitha likes to race around like a mad thing and is often right where I want to work. She is so full of life and fun, it is difficult to get a cuddle out of her sometimes. However when she does want a cuddle, she is a softie and lets you turn her upside down. Tessa totally loves her best friend Tabitha. Tessa is very shy with people and she is definately a Mummy's girl. Tessa is very affectionate to me and is often layed across my shoulder while I am trying to get the yard chores done. Both kittens are inseparable - eating, sleeping and playing together. It is so cute to see them curled up together washing each other.

Tessa
