HOOF CARE TIPS Thoroughly clean and dry the hoof before applying any oils, creams or lotionsFollow all instructions carefully to ensure the product works to its maximum effectRemove any residue from other products before applying anti-fungal or anti-bacterial hoof productsAbsorbent bedding materials draw moisture from the hoof, so use a hoof moisture if your horse is stabled for long periodsIf your horse is turned out in very wet fields, apply a hoof moist that helps to control moisture levels in the foot. If the hoof gets too wet it may soften and weakenCheck with your farrier and see that they recommend for your equine A well-fitted shoe will be slightly longer and wider than the hoof at the heels. The extra width is to allow the hoof to expand as it bears weigh, while the extra length allows for the hoof to grow during the period between shoeing. As the horn grows, the toe will become longer, inhibiting break-over of the the hoof at the toe. This is the main reason shoes need to be changed so frequently.
